How I got Started
Several years ago I founded Double L Bar Shooters, a Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association (CMSA) club with my partner Dave Lohrey and started looking for a shooting rig. I was not happy with the quality and design of the holster's and belts I saw from other makers. I felt the belts should be heavier to give more back support and stability since the rigs are worn high on the waist and two guns weigh nearly eight pounds when loaded. I also felt sight locks were not the only answer to keeping a gun securely in the holster and also offer an easy pull. Having worked a little with leather repairing tack and a few old saddles and being proficient with a sewing awl, I figured how hard could it be; dumb question. After a lot of trial and error I came up with a design and construction that would work for me. I made a set for myself and Dave. They worked, other club members saw and asked to try them. They liked the rigs and I was asked to make more. Now as I pursue the art of leather crafting the rigs became more unique and detailed. I improve and refine the construction and fit with every new rig made. There are simpler more economical ways of making the belts and holsters but I like them more interesting by layering the leather and having more hand work.
If you have an idea let me know I am open to suggestion for improving mounted shooting rigs.
I can make anything you need
Thanks for looking.

Belt Construction
The back belts are made from 10 - 12 oz Wicket & Craig vegetable tanned skirting. leather The Oval, Diamond, straight or Round shape of the backs have a good look and offer support and stability like a weight lifters belt, are 5" to 8 " wide at center back and taper to 2" at the ends. The buckles are set back from the ends of the belt so the front end of the buckle rests at the edge of the belt so they won't pinch when the buckles are tightened. The buckle is fixed to the belt by a sewn leather billet which also holds the keeper. The billet can be opened by removing a Chicago screw for a changing buckles. Front belts are also made from l0 - 12 oz Wickett & Craig vegetable tanned skirting leather and lined with either smooth leather or suede.
Holsters
Holsters are made from 10-12 oz vWickett & Craig vegetable tanned skirting leather and lined with 4 -5 oz suede A glued sandwich of leather , suede and a specially shaped rawhide liner placed between the suede and leather is then all stitched together. The liner molds itself and the leather, to your gun and keeps it in the holster. The belt loops are sewn through all three layers for strength. Our unique holster design requires no sight lock to hold your gun securely. Turn them upside down; the guns won't drop out! They slide in and out easily when needed for a quick draw or gun change and easily fit back in the holster and stay there.
Hardware
Standard supplied hardware is Jeremiah Watt Stainless Roller Buckles for one piece fronts and an oval or rectangle Double Buckle for two piece fronts. Conchas of Stainless, Brass, Sterling & Bronze are also available. See the Custom Belts page for examples of our vintage & antique hardware, I am always purchasing pieces and will change images as they are used or added.
Rifle
Rifle Scabbards are made from 10 - 12 oz vegetable tanned Wickett & Craig skirting leather and lined with 4-5oz split suede. They come with three tie on straps to attach to your saddle. Designed to allow an easy smooth pull without binding. Buckles are Jeremiah Watt Stainless etched ovals.
Rifle stock covers are made of 8 oz vegetable tanned skirting or bridle leather; tooled and molded to the stock then laced or from 5 oz suede or Elk and laced.
Chaps and chinks are available in many leathers from 3 oz garment to 8 oz oil tan and are custom fitted to your measurements. Waistbands are 8 - 10 oz Wickett & Craig Skirting leather in various shapes and tooling.
